How to install
  1. 1

    Measure

Measure your wall height and width. Calculate how many panels you need using our coverage calculator.

  2. 2

    Cut

Cut panels to size using a mitre saw or circular saw. Mark cutouts for sockets from the back of the panel. Sand any cut edges lightly.

  3. 3

    Sand

Lightly sand any cut edges with fine-grit paper. Removes rough fibres and gives a clean, finished look.

  4. 4

    Mount

Apply construction adhesive to the back of each panel. Press firmly against the wall, starting from the bottom. Use panel pins for extra hold while the adhesive sets.

Insulated, engineered.

Nordic Outdoor® Pro pairs thermally modified pine with a stone wool backing. The stone wool adds genuine thermal performance, a meaningful step where cladding contributes to the building envelope, not just aesthetics.

Real wood, real insulation, real warranty. Built for domestic and commercial projects where performance matters as much as finish.

Frequently asked questions

Nordic Outdoor® panels are made from thermally modified pine wood. The process uses controlled high-temperature heat and steam to increase the wood's durability, dimensional stability, and resistance to moisture and insects. The panels are FSC-certified from controlled sources and require minimal maintenance.

Flex is the entry-level panel, best suited for covered outdoor areas such as pergolas or covered patios. Design adds a black PET felt backing for standard exterior use. Pro includes stone wool insulation for thermal buffering. FR Pro adds an aluminium backing and achieves a b-s2, d0 fire rating for commercial facades. FR Pro Aluminium is the widest panel with the same fire rating, available with or without the slatted wood face.

The Nordic Outdoor® FR Pro and FR Pro Aluminium panels are classified b-s2, d0 to EN 13501-1, making them suitable for large commercial facades. Flex, Design, and Pro are not fire-rated and should not be used where a fire rating is required.

Yes. Thermally modified pine naturally develops a silver-grey patina when exposed to UV and moisture. A hallmark of the material, not a defect. If you want to retain the original warm tone, treat the Flex, Design, or Pro panels with exterior wood oil every 1 to 2 years. Do not oil FR Pro or FR Pro Aluminium panels as this compromises the fire rating.

Yes, for the Design, Pro, FR Pro, and FR Pro Aluminium ranges. These panels install onto pressure-treated timber or aluminium battens with a ventilated air gap behind, typically paired with a wind barrier membrane. Flex is the exception and is intended for simpler covered-area installations without a ventilated subframe.

Exterior slat panels can be mounted on most flat structural surfaces including brick, concrete, timber frames, and plasterboard. Plaank® composite panels fix directly with screws; Nordic Outdoor® wood panels require pressure-treated battens and a ventilated subframe. Always check the specific product installation guide for substrate requirements.

Installation varies by product. Plaank® composite panels interlock with a tongue-and-groove system and fix directly to the wall. Nordic Outdoor® panels require a batten subframe with a ventilated air gap, drainage clearance of at least 200mm from ground, and an appropriate weatherproof membrane. Detailed installation guides are available on each product page.

Exterior panels are not primary insulation, but some products include insulation in the build. The Nordic Outdoor® Pro range features a stone wool backing for thermal performance. For all ranges, adding mineral wool or insulation board in the cavity behind the cladding significantly improves both thermal and acoustic performance.

Maintenance depends on the material. Plaank® composite panels require only occasional cleaning with warm soapy water. No oiling, sealing, staining, or painting required. Nordic Outdoor® wood panels (Flex, Design, Pro) benefit from exterior wood oil every 1 to 2 years if you want to preserve the original tone, or can be left to silver naturally. Fire-rated Nordic panels (FR Pro, FR Pro Aluminium) must not be oiled as this compromises the fire rating.

Plaank® composite panels use UV-resistant technology and maintain colour stability for many years. Nordic Outdoor® thermally modified pine is natural wood and will develop a silver-grey patina over time. A hallmark of the material, not a defect. If you prefer to keep the original warm tone, treat non-fire-rated Nordic panels with exterior wood oil annually.

Yes. Plaank® composite panels are fully waterproof, UV-stable, and engineered for permanent outdoor exposure. Nordic Outdoor® thermally modified pine is treated with high-temperature heat and steam, making it naturally resistant to moisture, fungi, and insects. Both ranges are suitable for long-term outdoor use on gardens, terraces, facades, and feature walls.
