Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Whilst most people are drawn to attractive objects, what one person defines as being beautiful can be very different to another persons’ opinion!

At The Wood Veneer Hub we all share an admiration of wood. From the way it grows, creating unique patterns thanks to its grain and structure, to its tensile strength properties, which make it an ideal material for furniture and indeed as a veneer.

In fact, nature is responsible for many beautiful things… and not just on land! The seas and oceans are brimming with amazing finds, especially in more tropical climates. We tend to perceive that the hotter the weather the more exotic the flora and fauna, but perhaps that’s simply because we are not used to seeing these beautiful things! 

One climate not too dis-similar in temperature to ours is New Zealand, where Luméa, one of our latest veneer ranges is sourced. Unlike any of our other veneers, Luméa is made from natural shell.

Exquisite in appearance, Luméa shell veneer can be inlaid into wood, metal or acrylic, making it suitable for a multitude of uses including jewellery, furniture detail panels and musical instruments.

Being delicately thin, measuring 0.3mm in thickness, each sheet can be cut using a sharp knife, scissors or laser cut.

Each Luméa shell veneer is responsibly harvested from sustainable sources, and then cut into strips, before being sliced into small paper thin pieces and arranged together to form a sheet. 

A UV cured acrylic coating is applied to protect the surface of the shell veneer and seal in the distinct colour, giving excellent resistance to moisture, abrasion, petroleum solvents, alkalis, acids and vegetable and mineral oils.

Each Luméa shell veneer is supplied with an adhesive peel and stick backing, which will stick to most surfaces, but for additional strength, a two-part epoxy glue can be used.

So whether intensely rich Abalone Paua Blue Sapphire shell veneer or White Mother of Pearl Turquoise Green shell veneer are your favourites, or more classic shades such as Freshwater Mother of Pearl Natural strip shell veneer or Abalone Pearl Natural shell veneer, you’d be hard pushed not to describe all of them as beautiful!
